Demi does it. It’s becoming more and more acceptable in today’s society and I must say I like doing it, too. Yes, I date younger men.

However, some would say that my “date” the other night was pushing the envelope. He was roughly three decades younger then me, but, he was the cutest guy that I have ever gone to the movies with with! The other night, my son took me, his mom, out. I was treated to a night at the movies. This was not just any movie — it was the premiere of “Iron Man.” This fact alone contributed to my son’s Christmas-morning-like anticipation.
Sure, it was a school night and we usually do not stay out late, but this time I made an exception. After all, this was a premiere, the tickets were free, and my son asked me to go with him!
He is the middle child, sandwiched between his older brother and younger twin sisters. He has never spent much time in the spotlight. The twins’ arrival, after his brief reign, robbed him of his years of thunder. This never seemed to bother him, though. He just sat back and silently observed his surroundings. He graciously accepted the little scraps of my time and attention left over by the twins.
So when I was offered the opportunity to spend some time with him — alone — all bets were off.
My preparation for the evening was like no other. I was rushed after work to get ready, as he was shoveling food into his mouth and dancing around like he had to pee. He kept close track of the time and rushed me into getting ready and out the door on time. We made our 30 minute drive south to the theater and chatted along the way about the day, baseball season and his school projects. Upon our arrival, we stocked up on sour Skittles and selected our seats.
Fortunately, our timing was just right and our wait in the theater was minimal. I don’t think he could have waited any longer to see the movie without bursting. My favorite part of the evening was when he reached over and held my hand for the majority of the two hours. As we drove home, he claimed that “Iron Man” was now his favorite of all time.
For me, the movie was great, but this date with my favorite 10-year-old was by far my favorite of all time.
